Spirometry in Upper Coomera, QLD
What Is Spirometry
Spirometry is a common breathing test that measures how much air you can breathe in and out, and how quickly you can breathe out. It is a simple, non-invasive test that helps assess lung function and supports the diagnosis and monitoring of a range of breathing conditions. Spirometry is available on site at Coomera Specialist & Diagnostics Centre in Upper Coomera.
Why Spirometry Is Used
Spirometry may be requested to help assess or monitor concerns such as:
Asthma Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) Ongoing or unexplained cough Shortness of breath Monitoring a known lung condition over time
Your GP or specialist will explain why spirometry has been recommended for your individual situation.

How to Prepare
Your referring doctor or our team will advise on any specific preparation. In general, it can help to avoid a large meal just before the test, avoid smoking beforehand, and wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict your breathing. If you use inhaler medications, you may be asked whether to take or hold them before the test, so check with our team when your appointment is arranged.
What Happens During the Test
During spirometry, you breathe into a mouthpiece connected to a machine, following the technician’s instructions. You will usually be asked to take a deep breath in and then breathe out as hard and as long as you can. The test is repeated a few times to get reliable results. It is non-invasive and usually takes a short time to complete.
After Your Test
You can return to your usual activities straight after the test. Your results are provided to the specialist or GP who requested the test, who will discuss the findings and any next steps with you.
How to Arrange a Test
Spirometry is usually arranged through a referral from your GP or specialist. Referrals can be sent to reception@csdc.com.au, and our team will contact the patient to arrange an appointment. You can also call our reception team on (07) 5638 5325 with any questions about the test or how to prepare.
