Holter Monitoring in Upper Coomera, QLD

What Is a Holter Monitor

A Holter monitor is a small, portable device that records your heart’s electrical activity continuously over a period of time, often 24 hours or longer. It is worn during your normal daily activities, which allows it to capture heart rhythm changes that may not appear during a brief in-clinic check. Holter monitoring is available on site at Coomera Specialist & Diagnostics Centre in Upper Coomera.

Why Holter Monitoring Is Used

Holter monitoring may be requested to help assess concerns such as:

Palpitations or a sensation of a racing or irregular heartbeat Episodes of dizziness or fainting Monitoring a known heart rhythm condition Checking how well a treatment is working

Your GP or specialist will explain why Holter monitoring has been recommended for your individual situation.

Before Your Test

How to Prepare

ittle preparation is needed. It can help to shower before your appointment, because the monitor should stay dry and in place while you wear it. Wearing a loose top can make it easier to conceal the monitor and leads under clothing. Our team will explain everything when the monitor is fitted.

Wearing the Monitor

Small sensors called electrodes are placed on your chest and connected to the monitor, which you wear for the recording period. You continue your normal daily activities and are usually asked to keep the monitor dry, so baths and swimming are avoided during this time. You may be asked to keep a short diary of any symptoms and what you were doing at the time, which helps with interpreting the recording.

After Your Monitoring Period

When the recording period is finished, you return the monitor as arranged. The recording is reviewed and a report is prepared for the specialist or GP who requested it, who will discuss the findings and any next steps with you.
